Do people think that us ex pats should make the effort to learn to speak Spanish?

Yes I do, although im not finding it that easy, ive tried the cd's etc but i think the only way to learn is to get more involved with the Spanish people, but even that can be difficult as they want to learn English.

I personally think that if we are in their country the least we can do is learn the lingo.

100%. It makes sense to be able to communicate. However, apart from shopping and eating out, I have found conversation difficult to take on board....I keep thinking French from school days!!!

I am hopeless at languages but I am suprised by how much I do pick up. As Brits were are the first to complain when people go there and dont speak english. We should at east try.

I think we should make more effort to learn, as Tim says we are the first to moan back in the UK. But most Spanish people I have come across speak English which does make us a bit lazy.
